David Gooch scored twice as Clearview defeated Cherokee 5-2 and increased their lead to five points over last years champion. With only five teams in Tier 1 this year, Clearview is making a statement early on as the team to beat by winning 7 of their first 8 games. Gooch scored the only two goals of the first period, the first at the eight-minute mark picking up a loose puck in the left circle and beating Cherokee goalie Chris Sabol. Three minutes later Gooch made it 2-0, lifting a backhander into the top shelf on a feed from Jon Probe.

Despite being out-shot sixteen to seven in the period, strong play by Sabol kept the score close. Midway through the second period, Cherokee cut the lead to 2-1 as a Max Szczepowski blast from the point on the power play found the back of the net. With the game being tight, both teams took some undisciplined penalties and were unable to sustain any offensive attack.

Clearview put the game out of reach early in the third period scoring two goals in a span of fifty seconds. First, Wyatt Fox deflected a Chris Riggs shot that Bill Dunbar picked up the loose puck in the slot and ripped a shot just under the crossbar to make it 4-1. Kevin Magnin brought Cherokee to within 4-2 with five minutes left in the game, but Probe iced the game scoring with just over a minute left. Next up for Clearview is Shawnee, still looking for their first win.
