Delran's Late Goal Enough to hold off the Wildcats

A few days ago, Delran's boys' soccer team opened up their season with a lost to Burlington Township and was looking to even up their record against Maple Shade Wildcats. The beginning of their schedule has them playing their first four games at home and the start of their game against the Wildcats, it appeared safe that they would get their first win. Two first half goals by Delran allowed the Bears to start the second half with the lead. But Maple Shade rallied to tie the game and it appeared as if overtime was in the near future. Halil Aydin was able to put the ball in the net with less than a minute and a half remaining in the game giving Delran the 3-2 victory.

Just over midway through the first half, the Bears constant pressure on the defense was finally paid off when Dave Riberio scored and Delran lead 1-0. Maple Shade would have moments when they were able to move the ball deep into their opponents end but were unsuccessful at getting a good shot on net. Joe Kane extended Delran’s lead by one and it appeared to be a comfortable lead at the break. Steve Bowman’s effort during the second half tied this game when he scored twice. But the success of Aydin late in the game was enough to give the Bears their first win of the season.
