Sean Sullivan netted a hat trick and Danny Meyers stopped eighteen shots as Eastern blanked Cherokee 5-0 in Tier 1 action at the Skate Zone. Cherokee was unable to generate much offense and when they did, Meyers turned them aside. Anthony Orner added three assists. With the Vikings already up 1-0, Brandon Tunstall slid a perfect pass to a streaking Sullivan and his quick shot beat Chris Sabol and Eastern led 2-0 with the game just over five minutes old. Later in the period, the Vikings converted on the power play as Orner found Sullivan in front and his deflection found the net for a 3-0 lead.

Good fore-checking led to the next goal as Orner kept the puck in the zone and hit Mike Frohberg whose bullet shot found the short side and the Vikings led 4-0. Right after the center ice face-off, Cherokee had its best scoring opportunity as Tom Conner broke down the middle and tested Meyers who made the initial save. Conner then picked up the rebound and skated around the net and back into the slot, but Meyers stoned him again. Sullivan completed his hat trick later in the period again on a pass from Orner, again from close range. Cherokee will need to tighten their defense as they prepare for the playoffs.

With the win, the Vikings kept alive their chance for first place, which can happen if they sweep their last two league games against Clearview. All non-league games do not count in the standings of the SJHSIHL, but do count for Flyers Cup.
