Washington Township lost to Eastern 4-3 in varsity action at Hollydell on Friday night. Trailing 4-1early in the second period, Township kept chipping away, but time just ran out having plenty of opportunities. Three minutes into the game, Tavana deflected a Mike Kondrola shot from the point and Eastern grabbed a 1-0 lead. The Vikings made it 2-0 as Sean Sullivan hit Lieg with a pass and his quick shot made it 2-0. But Township answered twenty seconds later as Rob Hniedziejko scored from in close to cut the lead to 2-1.

Anthony Orner answered in the period’s final minute again on a feed from Sullivan, and the Vikings led 3-1 heading into the second period. When Joey Johnston put home a rebound to put Eastern up 4-1 early in the second period, the Vikings seemed in control with back-up goalie Manny Rheo playing well in nets. However, Township would not go away, scoring a power play goal by Andy Rohach to cut the lead to 4-2. Later in the period, Township had an excellent opportunity to get closer having a two-man advantage for thirty seconds, but never could get set-up in the zone. Chris Keyser scored a goal midway through the third period to bring Township to within 4-3, but they never could get that equalizer. With the win, Eastern remains undefeated through the first three games.
