The Edgewood boy's soccer team pulled out a BIG win on Friday to put them into first place of the Olympic National Division. The score was 3-1, but the game was closer then the score would suggest.

In the first half, the Paul VI Eagles (now 2-5-1 in conference play) outplayed and out hustled the Edgewood Eagles (now 5-4-0 in conference play). The Paul VI Eagles seemed to get to every ball. Tom Blumenstein for Paul VI played a great half at right fullback. Tom did not let the fast Edgewood Strikers, Brian Alber, Sean Geary, and Jeremy Cohen, get to any loose balls. Paul VI almost took a 1-0 lead off of a misplay from Edgewood's starting Sweeper, Mike Muckley. The shot by Chris Coskey went just wide. Mike was upset with the play, but Coach Wence got him back on his game by saying, "That was your first mistake in six games at this new position". Paul VI Keeper Mike Valenti made two big saves to keep the score 0-0. The first was on a nice dive to his right from the left side. He kept Brian Alber's shot from outside the right side of the 18-yard box. The second save was off of a missed header by one of his own teammates. On a cross from the right flank, one of the Paul VI players headed the ball to the top left corner of their own net. Mike scrambled and knocked the ball out for an Edgewood corner. The half ended with the score 0-0.

In the second half, Paul VI scored on a corner kick. It was a very nice header into the back of the Edgewood Eagles net. Edgewood tied the game on a penalty kick. Some of the fans were saying that they believed that it should not have been one, but the refs have the last say. The Edgewood Eagles took over and scored two more times to take a 3-1 win. This put Edgewood into first place of the Olympic National Division over Cherry Hill West by one point.
