Crusaders Dominate Camden County Meet

On a day when the weather was perfect for a track and field meet, contestants wouldn't worry too much about heat exhaustion. It would be Bishop Eustace who heated things up by capturing the boy's and girl's Division I Championship at the Camden County Meet held at Haddon Township. In the girl's Division I, Liesje Cardillo captured the individual 100, 200 and long jump titles, Alexis DiSalvio won the 100 and 400 hurdles, and Kelly Fox and Kerin Sulock place first and second respectively in the high jump, all for the Crusaders. The boys placed in 11 of the 14 events. The Edgewood girls captured the Division II title while Highland won the Division II boy's title.

Edgewood's Dennis Davis had his way, taking the 100 and 200 meter races, while his teammate Adonis Boomer placed first in the discus and javelin for the Division II competition. But Highland wasn't far behind in those contests. Overbrook's Murad Campbell breezed through the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races, but again Highland at least placed in those races. Nehemiah Davila (pole vault) and Brent Tyson (javelin) were the only two Tartans to finish first in their contests. Highland's persistence paid off when they scored a team total of 97 points to finish ahead of Overbrook, Camden and Edgewood. Danyne Brown of Camden set a new meet record of 13.3 in the 110 hurdles, breaking the old record set also by Camden's Scot McCray of 13.6.

The Edgewood girl's highlighted their Division II victory with a record setting 4x400 relay of 3:56.2, breaking Camden's old record of 3:57.9. Pam Richardson broke her own record of 1:03.0 in the 400 hurdles by racing to a 1:02.6. Claudine Evangelista set a new record for Triton when she sprinted for a 2:14.6 record in the 800 meter, breaking Kathy Ezell of Sterling's old mark of 2:15.3.
