Holy Cross Rallies To Tie With Five In Third Period

Trailing 6-1 late in the second period, Holy Cross shocked Timber Creek scoring five goals in the last period and salvaged a point as they skated to a 7-7 tie on Friday night at Hollydell. Timber Creek led after the first period 2-1 on goals by Jeff Scully and Gary Scott Jr. after Mike Welch had given Holy Cross the lead scoring on the power play. The second period was all Timber Creek as they controlled the play for most of the period, scored two short-handed goals within seven seconds and were seemingly in control when Daniel Cavallaro scored with sixteen seconds remaining in the period to make it 6-1.

But the momentum seem to switch right after the center ice face-off, as Kyle Gerner sent in Stephen Jessup and his goal with seconds left on the clock gave Holy Cross life heading into the third period down 6-2. Chris Countryman and A.J. Kirschner each scored in the first four minutes of the period to bring Holy Cross to 6-4. Timber Creek settled down over the next few minutes and looked as if they would survive, especially when Lanny Frederick scored from the slot to put Timber Creek up 7-4. However, three goals in the games final four minutes, two by Pat Tamez and one by Zach Luchtman, helped secure the tie for Holy Cross. Both teams have games on Monday, as Timber Creek will meet St. Joes and Holy Cross will battle Cherry Hill West.
