Andrew Trapani scored with eleven second left in the game as Highland battled back to tie the Holy Cross Lancers 4-4 in entertaining Tier 2 action played at the Skate Zone. With the Highland goalie pulled for an extra skater, Trapani shot the puck through a maze of players and amazingly it just trickled over the line as Highland rallied from a 4-2 deficit. AJ Kirschner led Holy Cross with three goals and Mike Varano led Highland with two goals. After Kirschner scored in the opening minute of the first period, Varano tied the score on a breakaway. Kirschner scored late in the period to give Holy Cross a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

After Mike Halliday tied the game at 2-2, Holy Cross scored two goals within seventy seconds to take a 4-2 lead late in the second period. With a chance to increase the lead thanks to a penalty on Highland, Holy Cross gave up a short-handed breakaway to Varano in the final seconds of the period. Trapani stole the puck at center ice and fed a streaking Varano down the left boards, with not much to shoot at, he lifted a back-hander just under the crossbar to bring his team to within 4-3. It stayed that way until Trapani’s heroics in the final seconds.

Notes: Seems our comments in an earlier article has generated some feedback, almost all of it positive, and this game was just an example of matching two teams that are Tier 2 level.
