Moorestown opened the Flyers Cup Tournament with a 4-1 win over Wissahickon, despite the efforts of goaltender Nick DiSammartino who was brilliant in nets for the visiting Trojans as Moorestown out shot Wissahickon 43-15. As was the case all season, Moorestown had four different players score and used back-up goalie Max Paluszynski in nets. After a scoreless first period, Moorestown broke out on top as Mike Furey came down the right side and used his speed to turn the corner and beat DiSammartino with just over six minutes left in the second period. Just over three minutes later, Kevin Schaeffer broke down the left side and his cross-ice pass deflected on the defenseman and into the net for a 2-0 lead.

The score could have been a lot worse as Moorestown continually applied the pressure, but DiSammartino was spectacular. Wissahickon finally got on the board early in the third period as Dmitri Sidorochev found the long side of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. Moorestown despite dominating the game, now only led by one goal. Moments later that would change as Greg Hadden made a nice play at the point to keep the puck in the zone, he then found Mike Weaver in the corner, and Weaver quickly hit Dan Greene with a cross-ice pass and his one-timer put Moorestown back up by two goals at 3-1. TJ Brennan added a power play goal in the final minutes to ice the game and Moorestown will move on to play Lower Dauphin at Ice Line.

Notes: Only one other team was successful in the Flyers Cup as #14 Williamstown upset #3 Springfield 3-2. Township lost 4-2, Clearview got beat by Penncrest 7-2, Shawnee lost 4-1 to Lower Dauphin, Cherokee got smoked 10-2 by Downingtown East and Eastern gave #1 Haverford a game leading 3-1 but eventually running out of steam dressing only 9 players, and lost 6-3. Williamstown will play #6 Interboro at Aston.
