Moorestown Hands Shawnee Their First Loss

Moorestown continued its winning ways as they defeated Shawnee 3-1 in high school ice hockey action played at the Igloo in Mt. Laurel. The loss was the first of the season for Shawnee as their record for the year is now at 6-1-2; Moorestown improved to 13-1-0 and maintains a five-point lead on Paul VI, with a game in hand. Ian Gill and Terry Brennan scored goals thirty-two seconds apart in the first period as Moorestown controlled play out-shooting Shawnee 14-5.

The lone goal for Shawnee came in the second period, with Moorestown on the power play, TJ Flynn scored short-handed with the assist going to Dan Grosso to cut the lead to 2-1 heading into the third period. Moorestown however continued to attack and got some breathing room with just under five minutes left when Mike Harrigan scored to make it 3-1, with the assists going to Mike Furey and Daniel Greene. Despite having a power play during the last ninety seconds, Shawnee could not capitalize.

Notes: Looking ahead on the schedule, Township looks like the only team that could catch Moorestown, but they must face Cherokee, Clearview, Moorestown and Cherry Hill East.
