Sweeney Pitches No-Hitter Giving Northern Burlington Its First Loss

Friday, April 30, 2004

It was a match-up between two very successful softball programs from the Burlington County Liberty Division. Both the Red Devils from Rancocas Valley and Greyhounds from Northern Burlington had won all of their previously scheduled games so for this season. So when starting pitchers Lisa Sweeney got the start for Rancocas, it would be a dual against her counterpart Chelsea Morgan. On this day, Sweeney picked up right where she left off keeping batters dazed and confused, but most important hitless. The Red Devils won this game by a 3-0 margin extending their winning streak to twelve games.

The Lady Greyhounds have had their success by winning their first 8 games on their schedule. During that span, they have only allowed just one run. With each and every win they pick up, keeps them in a virtual tie with Rancocas Valley. During the Red Devils winning streak, they have allowed just five runs but it has been Sweeney’s command on the mound that has been getting the spotlight. During Sweeney’s last start, Holy Cross also fell victim to the no hitter.
