It was a goal that gave one team a sigh of relief, and the other a heartbreaking defeat in a brilliant effort. Knowing that the Ocean City boy’s soccer team was the favorite in this South Jersey Group III quarterfinals game, Highland continued to play solid soccer for two halves staying competitive against the Red Raiders. But in the end, Rich Baker’s goal in the second overtime session was the game-winner for Ocean City. The 2-1 win sent the Red Raiders to the semi-finals round looking to regain the group title.

Highland’s keeper Pat Fauls came up big standing tall, wide and long against a very aggressive soccer team. Ocean City would score the first goal of the game during the second half when Baker’s efforts were reward with a shot that Fauls could not get a hand on. Highland would respond with a goal by Jeff Schaeffer and this game would be decided in the second overtime. Baker got free right at the beginning of the final period and make good on his shot.
