No Fog Settles Over This Lake

Eric Lake stopped all twenty-nine shots and Brett Balco scored one goal and set-up another as Paul VI defeated Shawnee 2-0 in a foggy Skate Zone on Monday night. By the third period of this game, the rink was foggy due to the unseasonably warm weather this week. That didn’t seem to bother Lake as he withstood the challenge as Shawnee had numerous opportunities, particularly on the power play, having a two-man advantage on two separate occasions.

Balco scored the only goal of the first period, as he picked up a loose puck in the slot and blasted a shot that clanged off the right post. Balco also was a force on the penalty kill as he used his speed and hustle to limit Shawnee’s scoring chances. The second period was scoreless, and Shawnee seemed to carry the play most of the period and ended the period on the power play with Paul VI down two men. However, Lake made two key saves, one point blank, to keep it a one-goal game. Midway through the third period Balco broke in with Dustin Isbert, and his quick shot found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Shawnee’s last chance came in the games final moments. With Paul VI again down two men, but the tenacity of Peter Antinore, Mike DiGennaro and Balco helped Lake preserve the shutout.
