Burlington City Defeats Riverside and Propels into Finals

Saturday, March 4, 2006

By Zachary Hibbs

It was a challenge third seeded Burlington City was ready to take on. The Blue Devils had the honor to travel to the second seeded Rams from Riverside participating in the semifinals of the S.J. Group 1 bracket. Both teams had players who they have depended on all season long and those players would step up their game in order to advance to the finals. Riverside's David Laury was dominating on the boards and gave the Blue Devils problems all game long. His game high 39 points would not be enough as Mike Morris and Kareem Diggs came up big down during the final quarter. Burlington City would finally pull away from Riverside and post a 73-68 victory over the Rams.

With one team already advancing to the finals, host Moorestown would be looking to match up with Holy Cross in order to win the Moorestown Invitational title. Standing in their way would be the Lady Rams from Riverside. These two Burlington County League teams have played on familiar ground in the past, but this was the start of a new undiscovered season for both teams. Moorestown quickly set the tempo for the game dominating both ends of the court. The Lady Quakers were never in any danger of losing this game as they routed Riverside by a 62-26 score.

So far this season, the weather has not cooperated with most of the spring outdoor sports. High School athletes can be caught looking out the window seeing if the rain has started or ended in time to play their scheduled or even rescheduled sporting event. Taking advantage of a rare sunny day on a "Good Friday", Burlington City and Riverside got together for a Burlington County interdivision softball game. Stacy Thompson completed the seven full innings helping the Blue Devils post a 6-0 victory over Riverside. The win completed a string of four games played in as many days for Burlington City.

Riverside's Valiant Effort Ends In Group 1 Finals

Sunday, March 14, 2004

By Crystal Parker

Riverside's quest to add another basketball trophy to their school’s display area ended at the Group 1 state championship game. The Rams, with their impressive victory against Middlesex in the semi-finals, were looking for the opportunity to take home the state title against the Bloomfield Tech Spartans. Today’s challenge was no different than all of the other ones they faced though out the season, but Bloomfield’s strength and size proved to be too much for the Lady Rams to overcome their early first half deficit. Riverside would never lead in this state finals game being played at the Ritacco Center at Toms River North High. Despite Sabra Wrice scoring her 2,000th point in her high school career, the Lady Rams’ exciting season ended with their 71-59 defeat to Bloomfield Tech.

Riess Highlights Delran's Win Over Riverside

Friday, September 19, 2003

By Jerome Michaels

With just the second week of high school football upon us, the coaching staff is still finding ways of getting those all important victories early in the season. With the playbook still warm off the printer, players are fine tuning their ability to execute their plays well enough for an entire game. Both the Riverside Rams and the Bears from Delran won their first game and were looking to continue to keep that losing column clear of any losses. Delran’s early success running the ball gave their home crowd a lot to cheer about during the first half of this game. Anthony Riess made the most of his carries, especially his 65-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that highlighted Delran’s 20-6 victory over the Rams.
