The game started off with the action moving from end to end. Midway through the first period, Shawnee's Keith Williams scored an unassisted goal. Less than a minute later, Renegade defenseman Chris Jennings scored to push the Shawnee lead to 2-0. Taking a slap shot from the right point, a skipping puck got past the Chiefs' goaltender for an unassisted goal. Shawnee continued its offensive pressure for the remainder of the period, leading 2-0 going into the second period.

Second period action began with the Renegades extending their lead to 3-0 at the 10:00 minute mark. On the power play, Shawnee controlled the puck in the offensive zone. Working his way out of the right corner, Keith Williams scored on the short side for his second goal of the game. Alan Dennison and Chris Gunther picked up assists on the play. Shawnee pushed the lead to 4-0 when Dan Rybeck passed to Tim Egan at the top of the left circle. Egan pulled a quick spin move and scored on a backhander. The Renegades fifth goal came in the last minute of play. Keith Williams picked up his hat trick by coming out from behind the net, slipping the puck past Chiefs' goalie Matt Charles with a wraparound.
