Shawnee survived a two-man advantage by Williamstown in the final minutes of the game and held on for a 4-3 victory in high school ice hockey action played at the Skate Zone. Shawnee scored the lone goal of the first period as Williamstown got caught in a line change and TJ Flynn broke in all alone and his quick blast found the back of the net. Tom Ruiz would tie the game at 1-1 as he was fore-checking with his team down a man and he stole the puck and deposited it into the net. Shawnee scored a late power play goal and led 2-1 heading into the third period.

After Alex Bickle put Shawnee up 3-1, Williamstown responded on the power play as Justin Osterdahl scored from in close to cut the lead to 3-2. After Shawnee built the lead back to 4-2 scoring on the power play with just about five minutes left, Williamstown needed to score quickly. Given an opportunity with just over two minutes remaining and with two Shawnee players in the box, Tom Sheridan cut the lead to 4-3. With still time left on the second penalty, Williamstown could not generate any quality shots and Shawnee held on for the 4-3 win.

Notes: This was the second straight game Williamstown played against a top team and was within one goal in the third period. This young team, they only list one senior on their roster, and under Coach Cunnard’s direction could make some noise down the road.
