The girl's competition from the Colonial Conference has been a competitive conference for years. It always seem as if Haddonfield, Haddon Heights, Haddon Township, Sterling and Collingswood are among the top at the end of the season. Well two of those teams, the Lady Knights from Sterling and Lady Hawks from Haddon Township were meeting for the second time this season. This time, Sterling came out on the winning side as they narrowly escaped with a 35-34 win on their home court.
Sterling (10-4) has been successful this season as they are bound for the South Jersey Group II playoffs. The only bump in the road has been with three out of their four loses to their conference counterparts. Those teams are Haddon Township, Haddonfield and Collingswood. Each one of their loses have been by three points or less and today's match up was no different.
Both teams had trouble finding ways of getting points on the scoreboard in the first quarter. The scoring picked in the second quarter with the Hawks holding a one-point lead at halftime. But it was the final minutes of the game that proved to be the difference as Sterling avenged their opening season loss. Sterling was lead by Kate Brennan with 13-points while Kelsey McGowan added 8 important points in this game. Haddon Township’s Danielle White finished with 13-points.
