Cavallaro and Hopkins lead Timber Creek to Tier 2 Title

Danny Cavallaro and Tom Hopkins each scored two goals and Gary Scott and Phil Rivello chipped in with a goal and as assist as Timber Creek defeated West Deptford 7-1 and won the Tier 2 championship at Hollydell before a standing room only crowd on Wednesday night. Timber Creek took control early as Scott scored just five minutes into the game while the West Deptford faithful were derisively chanting his name. Moment’s later defenseman Matt Walsh made a diving stop on a clearing pass by West Deptford, and Walsh floated the puck towards the net where Dan Lempa was stationed and his one timer made it 2-0.

Twenty seconds later Cavallaro got his first goal on a break and just like that it was 3-0. With the period winding down, Corey Jackmuff got West Deptford on the board as his shot found the back of the net to cut the lead to 3-1. Cavallaro scored his second goal of the game early in the second period as Rivello sent him in all alone, and then ninety seconds later Tom Hopkins converted on a pass from Ryan Johnson and it was 5-1. Hopkins closed out the scoring later in the second as Timber Creek was coasting at 6-1. Mark Lamberto got the lone goal in the final period and Timber Creek skated away with the 7-1 victory and their first championship.

Notes: In less than five years Timber Creek has become a champion at the Tier 2 level, a great achievement for a young program.
