Trailing 3-0 in the third period, Triton scored four goals, the last coming with an empty net and nine seconds left in the game, to rallied and tie Paul VI 4-4 in Tier 2 action. After Vespe had scored the lone goal in the first period to put Paul VI up 1-0, Rich Ferro found Dan Chambers in front of the net early in the second period to make it 2-0. With just under five minutes left in the period, Mike DiGennaro scored on the power play and the lead was 3-0. Triton scored early in the third period capitalizing on a giveaway as Joe Byrne scored the first of his two goals to make it 3-1.

On the power play, Chris Ramsey converted a pass from Chuck Pratt to cut the lead to 3-2. Chambers and Ferro would respond for Paul VI as they worked to keep the puck in the zone and a quick shot by Chambers through a screen seem to give Paul VI some breathing room. But Byrne scored with just over two minutes left and then after pulling the goalie, Triton had an odd-man rush. Vince Gutierrez put home a rebound to tie the score at 4-4 with just nine seconds remaining. This was the sixth tie for Paul VI, which also matches their win total.
