Cross Country Preview:
Washington Township Minutemen

Tuesday, August 25, 1998

By Bill Albertson
Washington Township Varsity Boys Coach

Watch out South Jersey, the Minutemen are going to be back in action. After their best season in school history where they qualified for the state meet and sent one man to the Meet of Champions, the Minutemen are looking to continue their winning tradition in the 1998 cross-country season.

This year's team is going to have a similar look to last year's team due to the fact that they lost only one scoring senior, Conrad Haber, to graduation. This year's team will be even stronger than last year's squad. The Minutemen have a total attack this season with a powerful top two in Bryan Skelly and Rob Hewitt. Behind the two runners lies a huge group of runners that could lead any other team to a win. They are Mark Weems, TJ Bruzek, Andy Marocco, Kevin Sherry, Adam Driscoll, Dan Nardiello, and George Gavras. All of these runners are very talented. The Minutemen's front five looks to be ever changing due to the level of talent in the 3-5 men spots. This gives the Minutemen the depth that they need to supplement the lead running of Rob Hewitt and Bryan Skelly. All of the team's runners are fully prepared for the season ahead. They have all logged the miles that they needed to over the summer, and are all attending captain's practices on a regular basis. Last year the Minutemen shocked South Jersey with their performances in sectionals and the State Group IV meet. This year however, the Minutemen want to set the precedent for the rest of the South Jersey Cross-Country teams. The task ahead won't be an easy one with teams like Cherokee who already established themselves as winners at the State level, but the Minutemen feel that they are prepared enough to accept the challenge. Are you ready?
