Anderson's Goal In OT Helps Township Tie Series

Buddy Anderson scored less than two minutes into the first overtime as Washington Township defeated Clearview 5-4. That win evened the championship series at one game apiece. The third and deciding game will be played Wednesday night at 7:00 at Hollydell. Mike Gooch paced the Clearview attack scoring a hat trick. The game started out as a defensive struggle with both teams taking few chances, but Clearview capitalized on a turnover with Township on the power play. Gooch intercepted a clearing pass and scored an unassisted short-handed goal seven minutes into the game.

Unlike game one where Township launched nineteen shots in the first period and were held scoreless, they only managed nine. In this game, Township scored on one of those nine shots as Adam Zaccaria converted a nice pass from Nick Martorano to tie the game at 1-1 after one. Clearview recaptured the lead early in the second period as Gooch blasted a shot just inside the blue line and it was 2-1. Although only facing three shots in the period, Sezchech made what was for him the save of the series as he stoned Gunnar Fox with less than one minute left in the period to keep it a one goal game.

A key element to their win was Township's ability to win face-offs. None was more important than the one Eric Marano won with four seconds left in the second period. Marano drew it back to Anderson and his blast tied the score at 2-2 with less than one second left on the clock. With momentum now on their side, Township came out and scored two goals in forty seconds to take a 4-2 lead at the ten-minute mark. First Gori scored his first of the series rebounding a shot from Anderson. Steve Brown would convert on a pass from Zaccaria and Township seemed to be in control. But goals by Mike and Dave Gooch tied the score at 4-4 and it stayed that way until Anderson's heroics.
