Buddy Anderson had three goals and three assists and Eric Marano added three goals to pace Washington Township to an 11-4 romp over defending league champion Clearview. The game was played before a standing room only crowd at Hollydell along with an overflow crowd in the foyer that included Township and Mantua policemen. Taking into consideration the large crowd and the heated rivalry between these teams and fans, once the uniformed officials arrived there were few incidents.

Anderson set the tempo early in the period with Township having a two-man advantage as he rebounded a shot by Steve Brown to make it 1-0. Still on the power play, Brown made it 2-0 converting a pass from Anderson and Joe Pelle. Although both teams lost key players to graduation, Clearview's loss of Pat Sullivan and John Meenan who were strong leaders and a defensive presence, could spell a long season for the defending champs. Late in the period Anderson, while falling to his knees, slid the puck to Nick Martorano who had the whole net to shoot at, and his goal made it 3-0.

Ryan Arnold scored the first of his two goals to bring Clearview to within 3-1, with about three minutes left in the first period. However Township scored another power play goal, this one by Bill Verdecchio with just over two minutes remaining and Joe Gori scored on a breakaway with fifty-seven seconds left and Township led 5-1 heading into the second period. On the night Township had six power play goals and one short-handed goal and both teams combined for close to thirty penalties. Township added five more goals in the second and coasted to the 11-4 victory.
