Fred Brewer scored his second goal of the game with less than four minutes remaining in the second overtime as Washington Township defeated Cherry Hill East 5-4 to remain alive in the tournament. Township will now meet Clearview on Wednesday night at Voorhees. Playing in front of a packed house and against AAA competition, East gave Township everything they could handle and almost came away with the victory. Louis Stomel paced the East attack with two goals. East scored a power play goal in the games first three minutes as Stomel jammed home a rebound of a shot by James Brown who seemed to be all over the ice. Brewer tied the game at 1-1 as his slap shot from the point found the back of the net. The teams traded shorthanded goals in the second period. First Pat Capone broke in and beat Saunders with a quick wrist shot and then Jon Sacks responded for East as Jay Fitcher sent him in for the tying goal.

Township took control early in the third period as Jason Pelle gave them a 3-2 lead jumping on a puck in the slot. Moments later, Chris Keyser increased the lead to 4-2 and it looked as if Township would pull away. But East as they have all season responded. Stomel got one back as he was in perfect position to put home a rebound of a shot by Jeff Yaffa. Then with about two minutes left, Kevin Desrochers tied the score with pure determination as he kept digging the puck out of the corner and finally after being denied twice, slid the puck along the ice and into the net. In the games closing seconds Brewer had a chance on a breakaway to win the game but Saunders made the save. When Brewer got his second chance, he made no doubt and buried it and Township will live another day.
