Parker Brown scored on the power play with less than four minutes remaining as Washington Township defeated Shawnee 7-6 to win their second consecutive SJHSIHL Championship. Christian Biscardi paced the Township attack netting a hat trick; Matt McDonald who also scored three goals paced Shawnee. The game was back and forth throughout, first Township scored early in the game as Biscardi got things going less than two minutes into the game. Shawnee would score the next two, as Brian Ruskowski and McDonald would give them a 2-1 lead with just under three minutes left in the first period. Christian Fleagle tied the score at 2-2 seconds later and that’s where we stood after the first period.

The first half of the second period, neither team could score, but that all changed as they combined to score five goals in the last seven minutes, three by Township. After McDonald and Cameron Rowand exchanged goals seconds apart, Ryan Welsey gave Shawnee a 4-3 lead with just over two minutes left in the period. Biscardi would connect for two goals in the final minute, both set up by Colin Davis and Township led 5-4 heading into the final period. After Jim Tumolo scored to put Township ahead 6-4 with David Moore getting the assist, McDonald scored twice within forty seconds to tie the game at 6-6. That set the stage for the eventual game winner from Brown.

Notes: Township will graduate most of their top players and next year could be a rebuilding year for the Minutemen. Shawnee has a young nucleus, but must replace Paul Gray in nets, a tall order, but Shawnee should be a favorite as we head into next season.
