Woodstown, for those who don’t know, Coach Frank LaRubbio gave you a small idea as to what you can expect from your high school football athletes. Woodstown played with a desire that has not been that evident in quite some time, these guys came out and blocked, and ran and played like a team that knew better days are ahead.

The defense should be commended for only giving up one score, a 53 pass reception from John Coppage to Aaron Hayward, the subsequent 2 point conversion, also scored by Hayward proved to be the difference as Penn’s Grove hung on for a 8 – 6 win. The game which was much closer than a lot of people would have guessed was played well; considering it was the opening game and the fans on both sides where treated to game that will be remembered through out the season.

Not to be out done the Red Devil defense played with just as much intensity and came up big when needed, after giving up a touchdown run of 28 yards to Dontee Carter, Penns Grove defended as if their lives depended on it, Anthony Smith, Reggie Reed, Bryant Lewis led a defense that was focused on creating as much havoc as possible, and with a little more fine tuning this could spell trouble for some other teams on the schedule.

The score did not give a true indication of the quality of play but know that both teams know they are capable of playing better football and in the coming weeks don’t be surprised when they do.
