George Bailey broke a 3-3 tie with less than three minutes remaining as Rutgers-Camden defeated Rowan 4-3 in the season opener for both teams. Coming off a sub-par season last year, Rutgers has added some speed with the addition of Dan Rosenberg, Darren Aldino and returning goalie Bill Douglas. It was Douglas who played a solid game in nets.

After Ron Angelo scored a power play goal to give Rowan a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, Rutgers used its speed to even the score. Bailey jumped on a loose puck and stormed into the Rowan zone after being stoned by goalie Eric Mayer. Aldino jumped on the rebound and lifted the puck over Mayer to tie the score at 1-1.

Still carrying play, Rutgers kept the puck in the offensive zone for almost two minutes and Rosenberg scored and the period ended with Rutgers ahead 2-1. Early in the second Paul Lendi tied the score at 2-2 scoring the first of his two goals, this one on the power play. Actually, Rutgers seemed to spend half of the period in the penalty box, but their speed created more chances than Rowan. Andy Adams scored short-handed to give Rutgers the 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Lendi's second goal at the seven-minute mark tied the score at 3-3. But Rutgers kept the pressure on and after hitting the post, Bailey deposited the game winner and Rowan never really threatened.
