Owls Overwhelm Rutgers-Camden

Randy Rangione had a goal and four assists, and Nick Anderson had two goals and an assist to lead Temple over Rutgers-Camden 7-1 in a college game played at the Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The Owls took an early 1-0 lead as Mike Hufford scored a power play goal with Anderson and Rangione assisting. That lead lasted just over three minutes as Adam Lemma scored from the blue line to tie the score at 1-1.

Unfortunately for Rutgers, that was the extent of their offense as they were out-shot sixty-six to twenty and never really generated much offense nor seemed willing to take the body. Steve McCloskey gave the Owls the lead for good at the six-minute mark after Temple spent what seemed like an eternity in the Rutgers zone, and three minutes later Anderson scored his first goal to make the score 3-1 after one.

Evan Kelly scored on a breakaway to increase the Owls lead to 4-1 just over two minutes into the second period. And just about three minutes later Quyen Na broke it open scoring on an odd man rush and it was 5-1. With three minutes remaining in the period after a scramble in front of the Rutgers net some pushing and shoving ensued, and Rutgers goalie Bill Douglass was ejected after defending himself and with no back up available, forward Elias Bitar stepped in and did an admirable job. Rangione and Anderson added power play goals to complete the scoring at 7-1.
