Eastern Scores Last To Defeat Lenape

Thursday, May 6, 1999

By Gary Steiner
SJSports Staff Writer

Eastern visited Lenape on Thursday in a regular season matchup. Both teams had already clinched playoff spots, but were looking to improve their records to help get a better seed in the playoffs. Both teams were also coming off of losses the day before, Eastern to Shawnee 21-11, and Lenape to Washington Township 12-6, so it was time to start a new win streak. In a game in which defense was an afterthought, the Lady Vikings would be the survivors with a 13-12 victory.

Shawnee was also riding a 14 game unbeaten streak going back to last season. Many people felt that whoever won this game would most likely be the winner of this year's state championship.

Ridgewood came two hours south to meet the only high school in South Jersey fielding a boy's lacrosse team and handled them easily. Ridgewood outshot Moorestown 31-13 and outscored them 8-5. Moorestown's keeper Joe Canuso did a credible job while Ridgewood's Kack didn't have much work.
