Hot, Hot, Hot!Sticky Weather Contributes to Light Turnoutby William H. Kile IIIIt couldn't have been much hotter than it was the third weekend in July for the annual Bill Kile's Memorial Run. Numbers were down considerably from the race's first two years, but those who did come out to Cooper River Park in Pennsauken seemend to have a good time. Eric Lorenz of Medford led the field of 72 finishers to become the third champion of the event honoring the respected educator. Lorenz, 29, is no stranger to being in the lead or withstanding unbearable conditions. A graduate of Holy Cross High School and Wake Forest University, Lorenz won this year's Pineland Striders Fourth of July 10K race on what he called, "one of the hottest races I've ever run..." Lorenz, whose father Herb is himself a legend on the roads and coaches Lenape High School's boys cross country team, completed the TAC-certified four-mile loop course around the river in 20 minutes and 27 seconds. John Marino, 38, of Doylestown, PA wa Lorenz's nearest challenger, finishing in 22:22. Other top 10 men finishers were Gary Knight, 20, Narberth, PA (3rd, 22:48), Joe Puleo, 32, Paoli, PA (4th, 23:47), Kevin Franceschini, 34, Haddonfield (5th, 23:51), T.J. Bruzek, 18, Sewell (6th, 24:50), Frank Webb, 54, Millville (7th, 24:58), Rich Ridenour, 40, Bellmawr (8th, 25:11), Kevin Hays, 38, Pitman (9th, 25:15), and Pete Pataro, 37, Pennsauken (11th, 26:52). Pamela Gess, 30, of Somerdale captured the women's division of 25 participants with an impressive 10th place finish of 25:21. Gess was followed by Mary Rose Blaney, 26, of Cinnaminson, who was second at 27:26 (12th place), followed by Mary Ellen Watts, 28, Millville (14th, 27:54) in third. Proceeds from the race benefit The William H. Kile Jr. Humanitarian Scholarship Fund at Pennsauken High School.
