Cathy Miller (#9 Voorhees Venom, Girls U-11 Gold Division) scored the first goal of many that will be scored this weekend at the Sixth Annual Voorhees Soccer Association Memorial Day Classic Tournament. This tournament will feature over 260 teams from seven different states. It has become one of the premier soccer events along the East Coast during the Memorial Day Weekend. These teams represent some of the finest competitive youth soccer teams in their respective states.

Mayor Gary E. Finger of Voorhees Township

The Voorhees Soccer Association (VSA) strongly believes that soccer is for the kids. In that vein, they will not sacrifice quality of play and atmosphere for profit. They will provide at every level possible a three person referee system and give participation medals to all U-9 participants, trophies to all semi-finalist and have co-champions in all U-9 and U-10 divisions.

During the opening ceremonies, Jeff Godel welcomed all the teams to the Memorial Day Classic. Godel, along with Bob Doherty and Ray Beyerle, serve as the tournament directors. The Mayor of Voorhees, Gary Finger, was also on hand to "kick" off the tournament. Over 1,000 games will be played over Friday, Saturday and Sunday to determine which teams will advance to the championship rounds on Monday.

The games are being played at six sites throughout Voorhees and neighboring townships. The tournament is expected to generate over 15,000 players, coaches and family members visiting the Camden County region.
