South Jersey Soccer:
Barons and Highlanders Finish With 1-1 Tie

Sunday, May 16, 2004

Press Release

Dereck Popovich had a goal, and goalie Nick Bochette registered seven saves as the Blackwatch Highlanders battled to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Sunday with the South Jersey Barons in a Premier Development League soccer game at Winslow High School.

Matt Maker gave the Barons (1-0-1) a brief 1-0 lead with a goal in the 29th minute of the first half, just before Popovich beat South Jersey goalie Brian Carr four minutes later to tie the game for the Highlanders (1-0-1). Carr finished with eight saves for the Barons.

Blackwatch outshot New Jersey, 20-17.

The Highlanders will be in action again on Wednesday when they will host two-time defending champion Cape Cod on Union College's Frank Bailey Field at 7:30 p.m.

The Barons travel to New Jersey City University's Gerrity Athletic Complex for a contest with the Jersey Falcons on Wednesday at 5PM.
