Philadelphia Charge defender Heather Mitts was selected to join the U.S. National Team for its four-day camp leading up to the July 21 match against Norway at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. Mitts replaces Carolina's Danielle Slaton, who has a knee injury.

Mitts, who will join teammates Lorrie Fair and Jenny Benson at the camp, has made two appearances on the U.S. National Team. The invitation does not guarantee that she will be on Sunday's roster, however, as only 18 of the 23 woman will be activated.

"We are thrilled for all three players. This proves the tremendous talent we have on this team," Charge head coach Mark Krikorian said. "We have a good group of players who can step in and compete at the international level."

Fair has 98 caps with the national team, having also played for the team during the 1999 Women's World Cup in which the U.S. won. She also missed the Charge's April 27 game against the New York Power earlier to be with the national team. Benson has just one cap with the U.S. team and has not earned a call up this season.

All three players will miss this Saturday's game against the Carolina Courage (10-2-3, 33pts), who currently sit in first place in the WUSA two points ahead of the second-place Charge (9-1-4, 31pts). However, the Courage will also be missing some key players as Tiffany Roberts (U.S.), Hege Riise (Norway) and Unni Lehn (Norway) all prepare for Sunday's international match. Slaton is also expected to be out of action due to her injury.

Saturday's Charge game will also be Women in Sports Night, as Philadelphia assistant coach Pia Sundhage and 76ers' executive Lara White will speak to a group of more than 300 Girl Scouts about their varying experiences in sports. The Girl Scouts will then camp out overnight on the field at Villanova Stadium. For information about both events call 215-467-GOAL.
