Girls Soccer Invades Fort Dix

The Cherry Hill Girls Soccer Association held their First Annual Cherry Hill Girls Invitational Tournament this weekend at Fort Dix. Forty-four girls teams from New Jersey and Pennsylvania, ranging in ages from U-9 to U-15, invaded the army base for some serious soccer competition. You could not have asked for better weather, though being a little on the warm side, both water and sun block were in high demand.

Games were played on twelve different fields at the Fort Dix Complex, with the contests evenly spread over Saturday and Sunday, and most brackets playing a four game round robin schedule. Fort Dix has a great set up, with all of the fields in the same area. It was neat to walk up from the parking lot and see nothing for hundreds and hundreds of yards but many colorful soccer uniforms running back and forth and their fans cheering them on.

To quote the CHGSA, "The purpose of our tournament, and our Club, is to develop in those participating the skills of soccer and the ideas of sporting behavior, honesty, integrity, and loyalty through competition. We believe that all girls, at all levels of play, deserve the experience of tournament play; and the thrills, character building, and training that the experience affords to them. We will do our best to follow the aforementioned ideals as a Club and as individuals; and we invite all participants this weekend to strive for these ideals as well. It is in the spirit that we are proud to announce that the Cherry Hill Girls Soccer Association will donate part of the proceeds of this tournament to the Allison Stohner Scholarship Fund."

This looks like the start of a great tradition, and South Jersey Sports Online congratulates the CHGSA Tournament Committee, and wishes them many years of future success!
