MISL Champion KiXX Open Training Camp September 3

The 2001-02 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Philadelphia KiXX open training camp Tuesday, September 3, in preparation of the 2002-03 title-defending season. Training camp is held at Tri-State Sports Complex in Aston, PA. The camp runs Monday through Saturday, each day beginning at 11:00 AM.

The KiXX begin their seventh season in professional indoor soccer, and are coming off their best year. Omid Namazi enters his third season as head coach, after taking over mid-season two years ago.

The KiXX return the majority of their 2001-02 championship roster including goalkeeper Peter Pappas, forward Chris Handsor, and midfielder Kevin Sloan. To add experience and talent to their roster, they acquired All-Star defender and Vineland, NJ native Glenn Carbonara to the roster. Carbonara spent the last six seasons with the Milwaukee Wave, before joining the KiXX.

KiXX midfielder/defender Jim Hesch retired after winning the MISL Championship last season. He played seven years of professional indoor soccer, one of which (2001-02) was with the KiXX. Gary DePalma and Drew Kopp will complete their seasons in the A-League, but will join the team later this season.

All training practices are open to the general public, with player availability immediately following the conclusion of practice.

The team then travels to Baltimore to compete in a pre-season tournament with Eastern Conference foes the Blast, Cleveland Force and Harrisburg Heat. On Saturday, September 21 the KiXX meet the Force at 4:00 p.m., then square-off against the hosting Blast on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.. For tickets contact the DuBurns Arena at (410) 396-4202.

The KiXX open their seventh season Saturday, September 28 at 7:05 p.m. in Dallas to square-off against defending World Indoor Soccer League Champion Dallas Sidekicks. The KiXX kick-off their home schedule Saturday, October 5 at 7:05 versus the Harrisburg Heat. Pre-game festivities include raising the championship banner, trophy and ring presentation.
