By David Deal
Philadelphia KiXX Director of Communitions

Philadelphia KiXX Executive Vice President/General Manager Greg Bibb announced today the team has signed all-star goalkeeper Peter Pappas to a multi-year playing agreement. As per team policy, the terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Keeping Peter Pappas in a KiXX uniform was our number one priority this off-season and I’m pleased that we were able to agree to terms for a new contract,” Bibb stated. “He is arguably the best goalkeeper in the game today and I’m excited about having him protecting the Philadelphia goal for years to come. Peter is a fixture both on the field and in the community and we look forward to his continued leadership for our organization.”

The Philadelphia University graduate finished the 2002-03 campaign with a 19-8 overall record and a career-best 9.93 points against average; both ranked him second in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). For his play, Pappas was selected to his sixth all-star appearance, where he made his fourth consecutive start. He also received Defensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the seven-day periods ending November 3, February 9 and March 23 as well as Defensive Player-of-the-Month honors for his play during the month of November.

During his career, Pappas has posted a 150-94 record and a 10.91 points against average. In addition to his five All-League selections, the Toronto native was named the League’s Co-Goalkeeper of the Year in 2001-02, a season in which he provided the backbone to the franchise’s only championship. The 31-year old netminder ranks first in club history in nearly every statistical category; including games played (253), games started (242), minutes played (14,138), shots faced (4,684), saves (3,274), points against average and victories. Pappas and player/coach Don D’Ambra are the only players to compete with the KiXX since the club’s inception in 1996.

In addition to Pappas, the club has signed newcomers Ze Roberto, Nikola Vignjevic, and Jeremy Aldrich. Both Roberto and Vignjevic were acquired from the Harrisburg Heat in the MISL Dispersal Draft on July 29. Aldrich was obtained from the St. Louis Steamers in a three-team deal on August 26.

The KiXX return Shawn Boney, Matt Brooks, Adam Bruckner, Stuart Dobson, Les Lunsford, Drew Kopp, Tony McPeak, Pat Morris, Joel Shanker, Kevin Sloan and Goran Vasic from the 2002-03 squad that finished with a 24-12 record and claimed the MISL’s Eastern Conference regular season championship.
