The Philadelphia KiXX announced today that midfielders Andy Guastaferro and Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar, and defender Mauricio Vincello have been selected by the Chicago Storm in the 2004 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Expansion Draft. The draft was held via teleconference on Wednesday, June 23 at 3:00 pm ET.
Guastaferro, who made his professional indoor debut with the KiXX last season, was the third overall selection by Chicago. The native of Canandaigua, NY concluded his rookie season with 11 goals and seven assists for 18 points in 34 contests. A product of the University of Maine, Guastaferro is currently competing with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the Pro Select League after spending the last three campaigns with the Charlotte Eagles of the outdoor A-League.
Vincello, a native of Salto, Argentina, was selected with the 13th pick in the expansion draft. Vincello joined Philadelphia for the 2003-04 season after a three-year hiatus from the indoor game; he made his professional indoor debut with the Toronto Thunderhawks in 2000-01. The 26-year-old defender registered 13 points on eight goals and five assists, while blocking 60 shots (2nd team) in 32 games with the KiXX. Vincello, who is currently playing with the Montreal Impact of the A-League, was named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts during the seven-day period ending February 1, 2004.
The Storm then selected Alcaraz-Cuellar with the 14th selection. The 27-year-old midfielder is currently competing with the A-League’s Portland Timbers, where he has tallied eight points on a pair of goals and two assists in 10 games played. While Philadelphia owned Alcaraz-Cuellar’s indoor rights, he never appeared in a game for the KiXX.
