The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas has been named the League’s Goalkeeper of the Week for the seven-day period ending April 10, 2005. The honor is the fifth such accolade for the seven-time all-star this season, the most among all netminders in the seven-team League; Pappas also received the weekly award for the seven-day periods ending November 22, December 19, January 10 and January 31. He was named the League’s Goalkeeper of the Month for his play throughout the month of January.

Pappas split a home-and-home series versus the League-leading Milwaukee Wave this weekend, turning away 31 of the 39 shots he faced for a .794 save percentage. The native of Toronto, Ontario earned his 18th victory of 2004-05 with a 6-3 win with 15 saves on 18 chances in Milwaukee on April 8, and also notched the second goal of his illustrious career with a full-field throw into an empty net at 12:31 of the fourth quarter. Pappas then concluded the series with a 6-3 loss in the City of Brotherly Love, despite recording 16 saves on 21 shots. On the season, the 32-year-old netminder is second in the MISL in nearly every goalkeeping category including wins, goals against average (4.45), minutes (1,967), saves (424), and save percentage (.744).

The nine-year veteran has been named to seven all-star squads, five of which he was selected to start, and six all-league teams during his career. Pappas was named the MISL’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2003-04 campaign, after finishing the regular season with a 17-12 record, a 5.44 goals against average and a League-best .765 save percentage. The Philadelphia University graduate also received Player-of-the-Week honors five times (seven-day periods ending October 5 and 12, January 18 and February 1 and 8) and Player-of-the-Month honors for his play in October and January last season. Overall in his career, Pappas has received Player-of-the Week honors 21 times, as well as nine Player-of-the-Month honors.

Pappas and the KiXX conclude their 2004-2005 regular-season home schedule with a visit from the Kansas City Comets on Saturday, April 16. The night, dubbed “Fan Appreciation Night” rewards loyal fans with special giveaways and promotions throughout the contest and a post-game live auction of the KiXX game-worn uniforms, benefiting Children’s Miracle Network. Game-time at the Wachovia Spectrum is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET, with the doors opening at 6:00 pm ET.
