Schafer Leads Waterford Over Stratford In SJGSA Action

A SJGSA Girls 13-15 Junior Patriot Division softball game was played at Waterford Twp., Waterford Twp. C vs. Stratford B, with both teams 2-0. Stratford jumped out to a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th with Waterford coming up to bat.

With the bases loaded, down 7-2 and with two outs, Kaitlyn Schafer hit a double and drove in three runs to cut the lead to 7-5 going into the 6 inning. At the top of the sixth, Stratford scored 1 run making it 8-5. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Waterford got the first two batters on base with walks, then hit 2 singles making it a 8-7 game with bases loaded and no outs, and again Kaitlyn Schafer at the plate. She then hit her 2nd double and 3 runs scored making it a 10-8 Waterford lead for the first time in the game.

In the top of the 7th inning, great pitching by Sarah Longino (2-0) shut down a very good Stratford team. This was a great game to see.
