In the 18th Annual Mike DeMarco Invitational Fastpitch Softball Tournament, 14-year-old division, Pennsauken beat the Millville Thunder 9-3 to win the championship. Pennsauken was 4-0 in the tournament.
Their first game was on Saturday, June 19. They played Delran. The score was 8-6. Vanna Wortham had an RBI triple. Jessica Martino went 6 2/3 innings, allowing only 6 hits for the victory.
Later that afternoon they faced Millville. It was a close game, with Millville leading 5-3 after 5 innings when the Pennsauken offense exploded for 4 runs in the 6th and 4 more in the seventh. Ashley Keich scored 3 runs and Annie Bilinsky had 3 RBIs. Ashley Quinn picked up the victory with 3 innings of superb relief pitching.
Pennsauken got to wait around as Delran, Millville, Vorhees and Mullica Hill fought for the right to play Pennsauken again.
On Thursday, June 24, Pennsauken got to play Delran again. The Pennsauken bats were alive, scoring in every inning, coasting to a 16-5 victory. Bilinsky had a homerun and 3 RBIs. Randi Beatrice scored 3 runs and had 5 steals. Stephanie Sylvia got the win.
Pennsauken was into the championship game versus Millville, who had defeated Mullica Hill 7-4 to advance. Millville scored 1 in the first. Pennsauken answered with 2 on 4 consectutive singles. The Thunder tied it at 3-3 in the third, but Pennsauken scored on a sacrifice fly by Ashley Quinn to take the lead for good. Pennsauken scored 4 in the fourth and 2 in the fifth to seal the win. Ashley Sylvia got the win, with Stephanie Sylvia and Christina Tofani pitching well in relief. Annie Bilinsky was 4-4 in the championship game and hit .615 to lead the team in the tournament. Quinn had 8 RBIs in the tournament.
