The college ranks took center stage on this day as Salem traveled to Camden Community College to compete in women's softball. This collegiate game featured two of the teams from the Region 19 conference. It was Starlene Morgan's production at the plate and Danielle Small's pitching that highlighted this game. Camden County's fourth inning burst sealed their 7-2 victory over Salem County.
Most of us probably have not realized that there are athletic programs on the Community College level that exists throughout southern New Jersey. Once our area athlete graduate from high school, most will concentrate on getting that college degree in preparation of landing that anticipated job. Out of that group, the love of an athlete wanting to continue participating in their favorite sport still runs through their blood. At any level, sports have become an important entertainment in their lives.
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning on Ashley Granato's RBI double, Camden County broke the game open in the next inning. The Cougar's took advantage of Salem's starting pitcher Jill Bonham mistakes. Camden County added four more runs in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Salem would put together a rally and score two runs in the top of the seventh inning on Pam Misenti RBI single.
