Red Devils' Free Throws Sink Shawnee

High school basketball has some rivalries that have gone back as far as one can remember. Hearing some of the fans mentioning the old times only made this meeting show the anticipation of a good basketball game. Well, this meeting was determined by halves, as Rancocas Valley used the free throw line to pull away from Shawnee. The Red Devils scored thirty points in the final quarter to capture the home victory 72-60.

High School Ice Hockey:
Clearview and Township Part 1, Ends in a Tie

Joe Gori scored on the power play with just over six minutes remaining in the game, as Washington Township and Clearview played to a 3-3 tie in front of a standing room only crowd at Hollydell on Friday night. With the tie, Clearview maintains a one-point lead over Township in SJHSIHL Tier 1, with each team having two games remaining.

Academic Challenge Is Under Way

Academic Challenge does not require physical strength. Instead, it is a test of intelligence and mental endurance, whose participants are students from ten Southern New Jersey high schools. This ten school inter-scholastic league includes Collingswood, Eastern, Edgewood, Haddon Township, Haddon Heights, Haddonfield, Highland, Sterling, Triton and West Deptford. The competition lasts nine weeks (Jan. 4 - Feb. 24), with only one match per day, and five separate meets on that day. At the end of the nine weeks, the teams must wait for the next set of matches. On the 3rd of March, the playoffs start at Eastern High School.

Township Comes Away With Road Victory

Washington Township went to Camden Catholic High School knowing their wrestling meet would be a hard fought match. This Olympic Conference matchup would be decided in the 215-pound match between Township's Mike D'Andrea and the Irish's Alex Stephenson. D'Andrea's 5-4 decision sealed the victory for Township (8-2) who went on to defeat the Irish (10-4) in a close match, 30-29.

High School Wrestling:
Vikings Turn Things Around Against Highland

When the Eastern Vikings visited Highland High School to participate in an Olympic Conference wrestling match, the stands were filled with fans anticipating a well-fought contest. The intensity was high as both teams entered the mat. The score was tied at eighteen after the 145-pound match, but Eastern's Greg Wrenn pinned Brent Tyson in the 215-pound match to seal the victory. The Vikings (7-1) won the match 36-24 and remain ahead of Highland (7-2) in the American Division.

Eastern Erupts For 13 In Defeating Neumann

Mike Becker and Mike Cianfrani each scored three goals, as Eastern skated past St. John Neumann 13-3 in a SJHSIHL game played at the Coliseum on Monday night. Marc Manara and Joe Jurkofsky added two goals each, as the Vikings blew open the game scoring seven goals in the third period. The lone bright spot for Neumann was Eddie Marker who accounted for all three of the Pirates' goals.
