This year's team reminds some people of the 1969 and 1970 teams that overpowered their opponents with great running, passing and defense. |
High School Football: Gloucester Catholic Holds On In Another City Series Thriller Saturday, October 21, 2000 By Ed Benkin It always seems to be a classic. It's easy to bring out all the cliches when Gloucester and Gloucester Catholic do battle on the football field. But it really is the Super Bowl of Gloucester City. You really have to throw out the records when the Lions and Rams play. You really can't leave until the final minute because it always goes down to the wire. The 2000 edition of this annual city classic once again lived up to its billing, as Gloucester Catholic held off a late Gloucester rally to come away with a 14-12 victory. |
High School Football: Moorestown Outlast Willingboro Saturday, October 21, 2000 By Gregory "Graig" White It was a great day for football for Willingboro's homecoming. This game was well attended and mother nature provided a day that could not have been any better. And then the game started. On a day that would see performances by two teams that felt they had something to prove. Willingboro wanted to redeem themselves for the loss to Cinnaminson, while Moorestown wanted to prove they deserved to be ranked #4 in South Jersey. |

High School Football: Cherokee Gets By Shawnee And Remain Undefeated Friday, October 20, 2000 By Greg Alvord Wheeew! That's the one word that can best describe the battle that was waged between cross town rivals Shawnee Renegades and Cherokee Chiefs. This exciting game of the year match up lived up to its billing as 7,000 fans were treated to the kind of football that makes your hair stand on end on the back of your neck. The Hatfield's and McCoy's have nothing on these two long time enemies as the Renegades and Chiefs continued their feud on the gridiron. In the end, it was Cherokee claiming a dynamic 21-20 victory. |
High School Soccer: Triton Rallies In Second Half For Win Against Overbrook Friday, October 20, 2000 By Bob Wankel Soccer took center stage under the Friday night lights this week as Triton squared off with Overbrook in the most critical game of the year. High School Volleyball: Lady Cougars Draw First Blood In Olympic Volleyball Monday, October 16, 2000 By John Daglian The Cherry Hill East Lady Cougars traveled to Voorhees yesterday to take on the Eastern Lady Vikings in an Olympic Conference Volleyball match. Both teams entered the contest undefeated in league play. Thus, this one would give the winner an edge in the race for the 2000 league crown. These perennial Olympic power houses were no strangers as they had met in tournament play at the Viking Invitational on September 18th. That encounter was won by Eastern, however, those matches are not reflected in either team's record due to the tournament format. On this afternoon, the Lady Cougars would not be denied as they clawed their way to a 15 - 11, 15 - 7 two set victory. The Cougars were led by Neesha Shah and Jhana Zarghami who combined for over 20 kills and 7 blocks. |
