With anger in their eyes, the Eagles were ready to take on a team that skeptics said they had to beat and again prove themselves. Camden Catholic went on the road to Winslow Township sporting their 5-1 record against the 6-0 Eagles. "Finally, maybe people will give us the respect we deserve", mentioned Coach Derryk Sellers. Edgewood were well prepared to pass that test of could they compete against a good team during their "soft" schedule. Coach Sellers' Eagles dominated the Irish and hammered them 43-14 with a defense that was on a serious mission. |
High School Football: Overbrook Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive Saturday, October 28, 2000 By Vincent Lewis In a game were one team needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Lenape Indians traveled to Overbrook High School in an Olympic Conference meeting. Lenape (5-1) were going into this game consider the clear favorites against the underdogs Overbrook Rams. With the regular season winding down, the Rams showed that they were not going to let their playoff hopes fade away in the wind. Jason Carr completed a halfback pass to Justin Thompson to upset the Indians by a score of 12-7. |
High School Volleyball: Fourth Annual JV Volleyball Tournament Held at Cherry Hill East Saturday, October 28, 2000 By John Daglian Cherry Hill East High School hosted their fourth annual Junior Varsity Volleyball tournament on Saturday October 28th. Eight schools featuring fifteen teams were represented at the event. As the girl's season concludes this week, this type of tournament gives the younger players a tremendous opportunity to gain valuable experience. The format divided the teams into three five team pools. Each team would play the other four teams in their pool twice. The teams with the best records in each pool would advance to the semi-finals. Additionally, the team with the best second place record would be given the final semi-final spot. |

For the first time in four years, the voice of the Mustangs, Tom Zimmer was not calling the game. Zimmer, who graduated last year, no longer had time to do the job. Connoley had two goals and an assist and Brett Piccotti also scored twice to lead the Eastern Vikings over Shawnee 6-1 in a physical game played on Monday night at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Eastern had three power play goals and a short-handed goal while freshman goalie Dan Meyers stopped twenty of twenty-one shots. Eastern struck first midway through the first period taking advantage of a two-man advantage as Piccotti deflected a point shot from Dave Warrington for the 1-0 lead. |
High School Ice Hockey: Fox Is Main Gunnar As Clearview Hands Cinnaminson First Loss Monday, October 23, 2000 By Jack Anderson Gunnar Fox had three goals and two assists to lead Clearview over Cinnaminson 7-4 in a game played at the Pensauken Skate Zone on Monday night. In a battle between two of last year's final four teams, both seemed intent on making a statement. Clearview struck first scoring two early goals, one by Fox and one by David Gooch to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. Cinnaminson climbed back into it as Parent, Penska and Mottola each tallied and Cinnaminson led 3-2 late in the second period. |
