The defense of eighth-seeded Clearview held the powerful offense of first-seeded Woodrow Wilson to 6 points in the first half of this opening round Group 3 playoff game. But the Tigers surged in the second half, scoring three straight touchdowns for the 25-14 win.

In a playoff game, it's up to the coaches to motivate their players in anticipation of advancing to the next level. Being in the playoffs usually brings out the best in the players to compete at their highest level. In this game, the highly favored Camden Catholic team went up against a Red Bank Catholic team emotionally determined to win the State Parochial Group 3 quarterfinal game. Their quest would fall short as the Irish defense held their opponent in check for the 28-14 home win.

Shawnee Captures Group 4 Soccer Title

It was a game that Cherry Hill East seemed to dominate the entire afternoon in front of a capacity crowd. A classic battle between two powerhouse soccer teams met to decide who would capture the South Jersey Group 4 boy's soccer title. The Shawnee Renegades kept their composer all game not allowing the Cougars to get a real good shot on goal. This was a game that only one goal would be scored and it happened at the very end of the second overtime period when Jamie Franks got his shot into the net for the 1-0 victory.

Gooch Late Goal Steers Clearview Thru The Valley

Dave Gooch scored with less than five minutes left in the game to snap a 2-2 tie and lead Clearview over Rancocas Valley 4-2 in a varsity game played at Hollydell on Friday night. It was clear from the outset that the game plan for Rancocas was to play solid defense, back check and wait for a break. Jeff Sporer who broke in all-alone and lifted a back-hander scored the only goal of the first period and Rancocas led 1-0 heading into the second period. Nick DeJesus tied the score at 1-1 scoring off a feed from Sam Valora and Bill Dubar.

Balanced Scoring Key In Township Win

Seven different players scored for Washington Township's Tier 2 team as they defeated Triton 8-0 in a game played at Hollydell on Friday evening. Township erupted for six goals in the first period and never looked back. Dominic Fiandra led the attack with two goals and an assist and Mike Duczkowski added a goal and two assists. Already up 2-0 early in the game, Chris Keyser fed Carl Orth in the slot and his one-timer made it 3-0.

Moorestown Takes Playoff Meeting Against Bishop Ahr

The first round of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs began at Moorestown High School were the sixth seeded Lady Quakers were hosting the eleventh seeded Bishop Ahr. Moorestown got a quick start in the first game of this match, but finally put away their opponent to win the match in two games. Rachel Johnston had five service points and 14 assists, Kerry Krauss came up big defensively and Jill DiMedio had five service points, six kills, and three blocks.

Camden Catholic Holds Off Bishop Eustace's Charge

It was a semifinal game that had both teams playing excellent defense that kept the fans on pins and needles knowing that one of the teams had to lose. Camden Catholic was hosting Bishop Eustace in the South Jersey Group 2 semifinal field hockey game. There was a lot of excitement each time a team had position in the circle. That's when the crowd got louder in anticipation of a goal being scored. The Irish took a 2-0 lead when Maureen Casserly scored the deciding goal in the second half to push the Irish into the finals for their second consecutive year.

Late Goal By Orner Has Eastern Fit To Be Tied

Anthony Orner scored with nine seconds remaining as Eastern rallied to tie Washington Township 2-2 in a well played game at the Skate Zone in Voorhees on Monday night. Both teams got solid play from their goaltenders, with Dan Meyers stopping 17 of 18 shots in the first period and keeping Eastern in the game. The only shot that beat Meyers was on the power play as Drew Petersen put home a rebound off a Tom Davies blast and Township led 1-0. Township had constant pressure and controlled play for most of the period but Meyers stood tall.

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Brian Boucher has been named NHL Player of the Week for the period of Monday, Oct. 29 through Sunday, Nov. 4. Boucher posted a 2-1-0 record, a 0.67 goals-against average and a .978 save percentage in three games, highlighted by consecutive shutouts and the longest shutout streak by a NHL goaltender this season (184:30).
