Ice Hockey Spotlight: Sunday, December 26, 2004 By Al Cohen Kris Beech recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms tonight at Wachovia Arena. Michel Ouellet and Ben Eaves each added a goal and an assist while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 shots as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton evened the season series at two wins apiece. The Penguins have captured four of their last five games to draw within eight points of the first-place Phantoms in the AHL's East Division. Todd Fedoruk, John Slaney and Joni Pitkanen all scored for Philadelphia, which has lost three games in a row. Antero Niittymaki made 19 saves to drop his third straight start. |
Ice Hockey Spotlight: Wednesday, December 22, 2004 By Al Cohen Steve Regier scored the tying goal with one-tenth of a second left in regulation and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers won their first-ever franchise shootout over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Arena at Harbor Yard, 3-2. With time winding down on the clock and with Philadelphia nursing a slim one-goal lead, Regier deflected in a shot by Kevin Colley that appeared to be going wide past goaltender Antero Niittymaki. In the shootout, the Sound Tigers scored on three of four attempts while the Phantoms managed just one goal by Patrick Sharp. |
High School Ice Hockey: Monday, December 20, 2004 By Mike Costantino Moorestown continued its winning ways as they defeated Shawnee 3-1 in high school ice hockey action played at the Igloo in Mt. Laurel. The loss was the first of the season for Shawnee as their record for the year is now at 6-1-2; Moorestown improved to 13-1-0 and maintains a five-point lead on Paul VI, with a game in hand. Ian Gill and Terry Brennan scored goals thirty-two seconds apart in the first period as Moorestown controlled play out-shooting Shawnee 14-5. |
College Basketball: Monday, December 20, 2004 By Mike Ballard Freshman guard Krystal Jankowski established a career high with 17 points and notched her first career double-double by adding 10 rebounds during the Lady Raptors' only game of the week, a 47-45 loss at Cabrini Dec. 14. Jankowski, who collected game-high totals in both categories, broke her previous high of 15 points, set against Goucher College Dec. 6. Her 10 rebounds were one shy of her career high set against Montclair State Nov. 29. |
Soccer Spotlight: Monday, December 20, 2004 By David Deal The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX defender Pat Morris and goalkeeper Peter Pappas have been honored with Players of the Week accolades for the seven-day period ending December 19. Morris was named the League’s Defensive Player-of-the-Week, his second consecutive and fourth overall this season, while Pappas received the Goalkeeper of the Week honor for the second time in 2004-05. |
