Ocean City Barons vs Reading Rage Sunday, June 5, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell In a game that everyone expected would be close and hotly contested the Barons notched their 3rd consecutive win 2-1 at Ocean City's Carey Field moving their season mark to 4-1-0. The match started tenatively for both sides as the feeling out process ran its course until the 14th minute when Tony Donatelli put Byron Carmichael through with a fine pass and he made no mistake burying his shot in the far post side netting to open the scoring. Carmichael would find himself in on goal again off a through ball from Adam Williamson in the 23rd but this time the Rage keeper, Charlie Sales made a fine save denying the Barons their 2nd on the night. His job wasn't over yet. |

One Inning Enough for Sweeney Thursday, June 2, 2005 By Stephanie Wright Lisa Sweeney’s softball career so far has been extremely impressive. If there was a scouting report to study on how to defeat the Red Devils, it all starts with scoring runs against Rancocas Valley’s senior pitcher. Third seeded Jackson was visiting the top seeded Red Devils looking for a way to defeat Rancocas Valley and pick up the Central Jersey Group 4 title. But for the entire season, Rancocas Valley knew that they didn’t need to score many runs to decide the outcome of the game. Kerstin Briggs delivered the key hit during the fourth inning scoring the only two runs needed for Rancocas Valley to pick up the title over Jackson. |

Audubon Outlasts Buena and Pick up Sectional Title Thursday, June 2, 2005 By Susan Hall It is not unusual to watch a softball game and the two teams could not come away with the victory after seven full innings. When that happens, most of the attention is focused on the opposing pitchers on the mound. For the Green Wave from Audubon, Kiersten Hughes has been spectacular on the mound and her counterpart Jess Goeller for Buena came up big extending this game into extra innings. With several attempts to win this game, Audubon’s efforts were finally paid off during the bottom of the thirteenth inning. The Green Wave had the game winning run on third base and Stephanie Taraschi delivered the biggest hit of the game giving Audubon not only the 1-0 victory, but also the South Jersey Group 2 title. |

Shawnee's Quest for First Title Ends in Overtime Wednesday, June 1, 2005 By Clark Washington It was a game that could have gone either way. Putting their nineteen game winning streak on the line in the semifinals, the Shawnee Renegades were looking to advance to the boy's lacrosse Group IV finals for the first time in their brief three year history. Amazingly, Shawnee has put together a program that could compete with the more experienced teams from the state and it showed on the field, with their final record of the season and the second seed in this year's tournament. The third seeded Montclair squad was out to prove that they deserve a trip to the finals as well. With the final possession at the end of regulation and the first overtime, Shawnee would attempt to win this game during the second overtime period. But with just over a minute and a half remaining in the sudden death period, Montclair’s Ethan Ledley deposited the game winner and end Shawnee's wonderful season with a 9-8 decision. |
