Thunder Fall 7-2 to Altoona Sunday, July 31, 2005 By Dan Loney Altoona jumped on Thunder starter Jeff Karstens for five runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-2 win on Sunday and a sweep of the three-game series. Altoona got a solo homer from DH Howie Clark and a two-run homer from Josh Bonifay for a 3-0 lead. 3B Tom Evans added a two-run single in the 2nd Inning to run their lead to 5-0. Karstens allowed six runs (five earned) in six innings. He walked four and struck out five. |

OC Barons Season Ends in Conference Semifinal Saturday, July 30, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell In a thriller that featured back-and-forth high energy action the Barons season ended on a stoppage time strike from Dominic Oduro. Richmond 5, Barons 4. The Future duo of Cristian Neagu and Oduro produced dangerous situations from the start with their sublime touches. The opener finally came in the 25th minute off a quick restart after a foul by Chris Williams about 30 yards out, wide left. The quickly taken restart caught the Barons unsettled and Neagu put Oduro in and his strong right footed drive beat the Barons youngster, Nick Talarico for a 1-0 Future lead. |

S. Duncan Collects 26th Homer in Defeat Thursday, July 28, 2005 By Dan Loney Trenton's Matt DeSalvo and Erie's Justin Verlander battled in a pitchers duel at Waterfront park on Thursday night, but it was Erie to score late in a 6-1 win over the Thunder. The Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 4th Inning on a Shelley Duncan solo homer, his 26th of the year. It was the only run allowed by Verlander) on the night and his only run allowed in 29 2/3 innings so far with Erie. Verlander allowed just three hits over eight innings for the win with two walks and seven strikeouts. He retired the final nine batters that he faced. |

Barrage Win First Game at Home Thursday, July 28, 2005 By Erin Vosburgh The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, faced off against the Long Island Lizards Thursday night at Villanova in front of 2,548 fans. This game was the third match-up between these two team, prompting a very physical game. The Barrage opened up scoring early in the first with a goal by B.J. Prager followed by two more. Long Island broke their streak with two goals by Stephen Berger. |

Phantoms Re-Sign B.J. Abel to One-Year Deal Thursday, July 28, 2005 By Al Cohen The 2005 Calder Cup champion Philadelphia Phantoms today announced that center B.J. Abel has been re-signed to a one-year American Hockey League contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed. Abel, 25, appeared in 29 games with the Phantoms last season, totaling eight points (4G, 4A), a plus-5 rating and 13 penalty minutes. He also compiled 24 points (6G, 18A) and 18 PIM in 28 regular-season games with the Trenton Titans before registering 12 points in the playoffs to help Trenton capture the ECHL's Kelly Cup title. |

Improbable 9th Inning Leads Thunder to Win Wednesday, July 27, 2005 By Dan Loney J.T. Stotts scored from 1st Base on a single and then an error by Erie CF Victor Mendez in a 9-8 Trenton win on Wednesday night. The game was delayed twice by rain, totalling 1 hour 42 minutes, and ended just before midnight. Trailing 8-3, Trenton started their rally with a run in the 8th Inning off reliever John Birtwell with an RBI double by LF Nick Walsh. The Thunder started 9th Inning with a double and a walk. An error by Erie SS Tony Giarrantano on a Shelley Duncan pop up allowed Matt Carson to score and make it an 8-5 game. After a pitching change, Omir Santos launched a three-run homer off Erie closer Edwin Almote to tie the game. |

Thunder Remain in First Place Despite Loss to Seawolves Tuesday, July 26, 2005 By Dan Loney Kurt Airoso hit a two run home run in the sixth inning and Victor Mandez followed with a solo shot in the eight inning propelling the Erie SeaWolves to a 4-3 victory over the Trenton Thunder at Waterfront Park on Tuesday afternoon. The Thunder led 3-1 behind Jeff Karstens through five innings but in the sixth Juan Tejada singled up the middle setting the stage for Airoso's 19th home run of the season which cleared all four tiers of billboards in left field. |

PDL Eastern Conference Playoffs this Weekend at Ocean City Monday, July 25, 2005 By Paul O'Donnell The Eastern Conference has produced the PDL National Championship team in three of the last four seasons. In 2001 it was the Westchester Flames, then came the back-to-back championships by the Cape Cod Crusaders in 2002 & 2003. Last year's champion, the Central Florida Kraze, were taken to Pks by the conference champ, the Carolina Dynamo, in one of the national semifinals. |

Thunder Start Homestand with 8-1 Win Monday, July 25, 2005 By Dan Loney Trenton got two-run home runs from Michael Coleman and Eric Duncan en route to an 8-1 win over Erie on Monday night. The win, combined with a loss by Portland, put the Thunder back into 1st Place in the Eastern League's Northern Division. Eriegot the first run of the game in the 3rd Inning off Thunder starter Ramon Ramirez. SS tony Giarratano singled, stole 2nd base and scored on a double by LF Mike Woods. But that was the only run allowed by Ramirez in six innings. He allowed five hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts. |
