Wojcik's Overtime Goal Helps Cinnaminson Defeat Delran

Monday, April 23, 2007

By Stephanie Wright
SJSports Special Correspondent

When two teams who have a history of never giving up no matter what the score is come together, you can expect a very competitive game. This was definitely true when the Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveled to Delran to take on the undefeated Bears in a Burlington County League girls' lacrosse game. Cinnaminson would jump out to an early two goal lead only to see Delran battle right back. During this entire game, the Pirates would have leads only to see Delran's determination pay off. Lauren Wojcik would be at the right place at the right time when she scored the winning goal just 57 seconds into the overtime session. Cinnaminson would finally end this thrilling match-up by posting an 11-10 victory.

Haddon Township Defeats Cinnaminson

Tuesday, April 23, 2006

By Susan Hall

The first round of the South Jersey Group 2 softball tournament began with the eleventh seeded Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson traveling to Haddon Township to compete against the sixth seeded Lady Hawks. Both of these teams have experience advancing to the next round and were looking to continue with that success. Colleen O’Riordan was in complete control of her pitches as Haddon Township limited the Pirates’ scoring chances. A four run fourth inning was more than enough support for the Hawks’ starting pitcher and Haddon Township would be that team moving on to the next round. With their 6-0 victory, the Lady Hawks will now face a familiar opponent as they will travel to Audubon.

Monday, February 27, 2006

By Jerome Michaels

When the seedings were announced for the state's basketball tournament, there's always one pairing that has all the implications of a match up that will turn out to being a very close game. Seedings can be deceiving as the home team, Cinnaminson seeded in the eighth position, took over this first round game against Audubon. With a double digit lead in the fourth quarter, the Green Wave would cut into that deficit. The Pirates would be able to withstand Audubon's efforts and regained control of this boys' South Jersey Group II basketball game. Dan Korenyi would lead the Pirates to the 69-53 victory.

By Susan Hall

A new season began today with the start of the first round of the group basketball playoffs. The sixth seeded Lady Pirates from Cinnaminson were hosting eleventh seeded Pt. Pleasant Boro in a South Jersey Group 2 girls' basketball game. As expected, the level of play is at a higher level knowing what's at stake. Both of these teams would struggle a bit during the first half, but it would be the second half when the game finally began. Cinnaminson would erase a six point deficit and held a one point lead during the final seconds. A desperation three point shot by the Panthers would bounce off the rim and Cinnaminson would advance to the next round with their 49-48 victory. Top seeded Haddonfield will be their next opponent.

Cinnaminson Starts Playoffs Off With a Win

Friday, February 3, 2006

By Vincent Lewis

It would be two teams from Tier II that started off the playoffs for the SJHSIHL Friday night at the Hollydell Ice Arena. Both Highland and Cinnaminson were playing for the rights to advance to the next round during this single elimination game. It was quite noticeably that Frank Vannoni for Highland and Andy Poskus for Cinnaminson didn't want their team's season to end. With the game tied and less than a minute and a half remaining in regulation, Matthew Grennon's goal not only avoided overtime but also extended Cinnaminson's season. With their 5-4 victory, Cinnaminson will now face the number one seed Timber Creek.

Blue Devils Second Half the Difference at Cinnaminson

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

By Jerome Michaels
SJSports Special Correspondent

It was a tale of two halves for the division leading Blue Devils from Burlington City. In a Burlington County League Patriot Division basketball game against Cinnaminson, it had appeared as if the Pirates were ready to do all they could to upset the leaders of their division. Knowing the cutoff date to qualify for the upcoming state tournament was less that a week away, Cinnaminson aggressive defense kept them right in this game up until halftime. But Burlington City pulled themselves together behind the success of Mike Morris and took over the second half. The Blue Devils remained undefeated in their division with their 58-45 victory over the Pirates.

Penalty Kicks Gives Delran the Win

Tuesday, November 8, 2005

By Vincent Lewis
SJSports Staff Writer

You hear it most of the time and it's the reason most players work so hard to avoid it. When a game has to be decided by penalty kicks, it takes away from the defense and the goal keeper's performance they had for two halves. Unfortunately it's the only way to determine a winner of a game when it can't be decided during the regulation and overtime periods. After Delran and Cinnaminson could not come up with the game winning kick during regulation, it was time for the shoot out session to begin. With the number one seeded Bears from Delran down 3-1 in penalty kicks to the Pirates, the home team would score the next four times to go ahead and defeat Cinnaminson and advance to the finals.

Lancers' Offense Does Not Slow Down at Cinnaminson

Friday, September 23, 2005

By Jerome Michaels

It’s something that you would never want to see, but it’s a situation that a team must be ready for. Leading by a touchdown at Cinnaminson High School, starting quarterback Tony Santino for Holy Cross had to leave the game due to an injury. At that moment it’s time for the backup to enter the game and continue to follow the game plan without hesitation. When Tom Reilly entered the game, he was involved in the Lancers’ four touchdown explosion scored in the second quarter to ignite a Holy Cross victory. Reilly connected with Rob Deveney twice and Holy Cross would defeat Cinnaminson by a 47-7 margin.
