Monday, May 19, 2003 By Jerome Michaels The South Jersey Group III baseball tournament began with two neighboring school competing against one another. It wasn’t much of a travel, but the Chargers from Timber Creek visited Highland High School to take on the Tartans baseball team. Highland had earned the fifth seed and was looking to advance to the next round against Williamstown. The Chargers took charge of this game scoring once in the first and twice in the third inning to score enough runs to advance. Mike Cummings picked up the win for Timber Creek, seeded twelfth, and earned the rights to play in the next round with their 6-2 win. |

Saturday, March 8, 2003 By Art Redd Shalamar Oakley erased all doubts about, if the Lady Tigers from Woodrow Wilson could finally beat the girl's basketball team from Highland High School. These two teams met in last year's semifinals game with the Lady Tartans pulling away to advance to the championship game. This year, Oakley's three pointer that beat the buzzer to end the first half was a good indication of things to come. Her twenty second half points highlighted the Tigers' 60-48 win at Cherry Hill East High School in semifinals action. With the win, the Lady Tigers will meet the Willingboro Lady Chimeras for the South Jersey Group 3 group championship. |
Highland Captures the Tri-County Conference Title Saturday, March 1, 2003 By Art Redd Playing an unfamiliar team always presents new challenges for both the coaching staff and the players. That was the situation with the girl’s basketball team from Wildwood competing against the Lady Tartans from Highland for the Tri-County Conference Title. The Warriors’ Lana Harshaw is the leading scorer for Wildwood as her ability to take control of a game inside the paint has been established during their 19 game winning streak. Highland, behind the two juniors Lisa Steele and Danielle Hemerka, have cause havoc for opposing defenses all season long. When the two teams met Saturday afternoon at Williamstown, Highland (21-3) dominated the game from the start as Lisa Steele’s game high 32-points highlighted their 19 point victory. |
Highland Sluggish, Sacred Heart Takes Full Advantage Sunday, February 9, 2003 By Crystal Parker Basketball is another one of those sports where each game you enter on the court should be like the first. The level of your play should be as high as if it was on opening day. But can a team play at that level through out the entire season? It's a feat only few can accomplish. So what happens when both the Lady Lions from Sacred Heart and the talents of the girl's basketball team from Highland High School get together for the Shootout at the Shore at Mainland Regional? One team seems to find a weakness and do their best to exploit it. Sacred Heart did exactly that as they held on for the 41-38 victory. |
Highland Breezes By Lady Rams Thursday, January 16, 2003 By Crystal Parker It was a game that was marked down on the schedule as a classic match up against two teams that were undefeated in the Tri-County Conference Liberty Division. The Lady Rams traveled to Highland High School, which the Lady Tartans were not very hospitable hosts. Crashing the boards on both ends of the court proved to be too much for Gloucester Catholic to handle. Add the long range shooting from Lisa Steele, Danielle Hemerka and Stacy Digneo, Highland put this game away in the first quarter setting the tone for the rest of the way. Head coach Dan McGettigan watched his team post a 51-22 victory and remain undefeated for the season. |
Clayton Remains Undefeated With Win Over Highland Wednesday, September 18, 2002 By Vincent LewisSJSports Staff Writer In an interdivision boy's soccer game, Clayton would travel to their unlikely opponent of Highland. This was an opportunity for these two teams to meet with the Tartans moving to the Tri-County Conference with this year's realignment. The Clippers from Clayton, in this game, was the team putting the pressure on the defense giving them good scoring chances in the first half. Kevin McDonald's second half goal proved to be the winning goal that pushed Clayton (2-0-1) past Highland by a 2-1 margin. |
