Voorhees Vipers Capture 2nd Place

(9/1) The Voorhees Vipers U-11 soccer team captured second place in the Moorestown Soccer Club Labor Day tournament. Coach Roddy was pleased with his teams' performance and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

The Vipers finished the tournament with a 1-0 win. The lone goal was scored by Francis Keegan late in the game. The team played a solid defensive game enroute to the shutout. Goalie Michael Derrico earned the shutout by stopping 7 shots.

In other tournament news, Curtis Ober scored the teams' first goal via a penalty kick at the Marlboro Tournament.

Season Opener Ends In Tie

(9/7) The Voorhees Vipers started the season strong with a 3-3 tie against the Barrington Red Thunder.

The offense played strong and challenged for most of the first half. Tony Page scored the first goal after a sweet pass from Brandon Roddy. Michael Bertucci, showing speed and good ball handling skills, scored the second goal after receiving a pass from fullback Curtis Ober. Bertucci's took the outside the 18 yard line and it sailed over the Barrington goalie giving the Voorhees Vipers a 2-0 lead.

The third goal originated from a Vipers corner kick. Brian Friel took the corner kick and placed his initial kick to the center of the goal. The Barrington defender cleared the pass back to Friel and he blasted the rebound past the Barrington goalie. The strong offensive showing was generated by forwards Francis Keegan, Michael Bertucci, Tony Page and halfbacks Brandon Roddy, Michael Buzzard, Jason Rosengard, Christopher Kappler, and Michael Mirmanesh.

In addition to the strong offensive showing, the Viper fullbacks consisting of Brian Friel, Curtis Ober, Bryan Williams, Michael Magun and goaltender Michael Derrico held the Barrington Red Thunder scoreless in the first half. With the score 3-0, Barrington came back strong in the second half. The Red Thunder scored three unanswered goals in the last 20 minutes of play to end the game in a 3-3 tie. The tie extended the Vipers unbeaten string to three games.

VIPERS "Crunch" Out Win Over Cohansey 2-1

(9/14) The Viper obtained their first win of the season in a come from behind 2-1 victory over the Cohansey Crunch. After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Vipers controlled the play in the second half.

Michael Mirmanesh got the Vipers offense started with his first goal of the season. The play started when Brian Freil stole the ball from a Cohansey forward and passed the ball to Fran Keagen. Keagan dribbled by two Cohansey defenders and made a perfect pass to Mirmanesh who beat the Crunch goalie to the far post.

With time running out, the Vipers continued to press. Bryan Williams intercepted a Cohansey goal kick and fed the ball to Michael Bertucci. Bertucci fired the ball from the 18-yard line past the Cohansey goalie giving the Vipers the 2-1 victory and extending their unbeaten string to 4 games.

VIPERS & LIGHTING Battle To 0-0 Tie
Unbeaten Streak Reaches 5

(9/21) The Undefeated Voorhees Vipers and the Undefeated Linwood Lighting battled to a 0-0 tie. Although no goals were scored, the game featured many offensive opportunities for both teams.

Kyle Schuricht and Michael Derrico split the goaltending duties enroute to the teams first shutout. Each was credited with stopping two breakaway chances by the Linwood Lighting.

The tie left both teams undefeated and extended the Viper unbeaten streak to 5 games.
